Summer School
Newhouse Academy Y6 Summer School
Newhouse Academy Summer School was open to all Year 6 students who would be taking a place in our Y7 cohort in Sept 2021.
It was held on site for 5 days and comprised a mixture of activities which were mainly planned and delivered by our own teaching staff and supported by our teaching assistants. Sessions included English and maths, art and humanities, Spanish, PE and expressive arts.
In addition to this we bought in a roller disco, a science show and a local poet. All of the food and drink were supplied for the students and were cooked on site by our catering team. We had additional support for admin, safeguarding, first aid and SEND so that all student needs were catered for.
We had some staff from our feeder primary schools come on the first day to support their students and staff were available at the start and end of every day to meet with families as needed.
Sessions were well received and included UV games, a huge art installation which now hangs in the academy atrium, an escape room, creative writing, stunting, mathematical translations, Spanish taster and creating identity poetry.
We spent a total of £44, 159.00 which included all staffing, resourcing, food, drink and suncream as the weather was so hot!
