Uniform and Equipment

From September 2021:

All Year groups to wear the Newhouse Academy uniform. The old Siddal Moor uniform will no longer be acceptable.

Newhouse Academy Uniform

Blazer

Grey Newhouse Academy Blazer.

Shirt

Plain white shirt or blouse with a collar. May be long or short sleeved. Must be tucked into trousers/skirt. Any undershirt must not be visible. No polo shirts or sportswear.

Trousers and Skirts

Plain black trousers and skirts.

Skirts must be worn to the knee. Skirt styles not acceptable are: tight, short or ‘pencil’.

Trousers must be of a standard school tailored style without splits, belt buckles or other adornments.

The following are unacceptable: Denims, cotton or canvas jeans, ‘jean style’ cut (external rear pockets), leggings, skinnies, ski-pants or stretch fabrics.

Tie

Keystage 3 – Black tie with one colour thick stripe and Newhouse embroidery.
Keystage 4 – Black tie with two colour thin stripe and Newhouse embroidery.
Newhouse Academy ties are available to purchase from school through Wisepay.

Jumper - optional

Plain black v-neck jumper.

Socks / Tights

Plain black or white socks or black opaque tights.

School Shoes

Black shoes must be worn. Nike Air Force or any other sportswear brand are not be acceptable.
(see below for acceptable shoe styles)

Footwear must be sensible and appropriate to school wear (this excludes high heels, sandals, boots, plimsolls or other inappropriate footwear).

Hair

Extreme hairstyles are not allowed, skinheads or pattern cut into hair or brightly coloured dyed hair.

Hair ties – black or white.

Jewellery / Makeup

A single gold or silver stud may be worn in each ear. No other type of jewellery may be worn. No makeup, no nail varnish, no false eyelashes or false/acrylic nails, no nose, lip or brow piercings.

Uniform Expectations

All students will have to wear their blazers at all times – on corridors, in the dining room, etc. No blazer can be removed in class without a teacher’s permission.

Coats cannot be worn inside the school building and hoodies are not permitted anywhere on school premises (inside or out). We must therefore encourage students to bring a coat to school rather than a hoodie.

Students are expected to wear UNIFORM. A note MUST be brought from home if they need to be excused from wearing an item of uniform. The Headteacher reserves the right to ban any item of clothing or personal appearance which is deemed to bring the school into disrepute or to have an adverse effect on the culture of the Academy.

Trainer type footwear similar to the Adidas ‘Stan Smith’, Kickers and Vans type trainer and Nike Air Force 1 shown here are not acceptable to be worn as school shoes.

The existing Siddal Moor branded PE kit can continue to be worn in school until the end of the 2020/21 academic year.

From September 2021 all year groups to wear the re-designed Newhouse Academy PE kit. Our main uniform suppliers, (Ziggys, Moses and Topform by Monkhouse) have informed us that they will have the new Newhouse Academy PE kit in stock as from July 2021.

We advise that you contact your chosen supplier in advance of any visit to their store, just to make sure that they have the required items/sizes in stock. Monkhouse would like to remind parents/families that you are very welcome to book an appointment and pre-order the new kit.

Minimum PE kit requirement: T-shirt, shorts and sports socks (for boys and girls) or t-shirt and leggings (as alternative for girls).

Supermarkets and High Street Stores

You will also find many local supermarkets and high street stores sell black school trousers and skirts and white school shirts and blouses. 

We advise that mobile phones, airpods, smartwatches, tablets, e-readers, laptops and other personal tech are not brought into school.

If students wear inappropriate footwear, we provide shoes which MUST be worn instead.

OUTER COAT – No hoodies, jumpers, overshirts, or jackets with inappropriate slogans. Outer coats cannot be worn in the building.

Personal property must be clearly marked. We cannot take responsibility for lost property.

Equipment

We would like all students to come to school each day with a school bag and all of the equipment they will need for the school day.

Pen, pencil, ruler and a scientific calculator are compulsory (there are a number of casio models that are acceptable to buy but the most common are the Casio X83 and 85 models).

For Covid reasons, teachers will not be able to lend or share equipment. Students are also able purchase school recommended calculators from the Maths department.
