Our Vision: High expectations in all that we do

At Newhouse Academy we have high expectations for everyone involved in our community.

We set ambitious targets for attendance, conduct and achievement that make no excuses for a student’s starting point or background. Our aim is to create a culture of continual improvement for our students and staff, that enables them to be aspirational and achieve their desired destinations in further education and in the world of work.

Our Core Vales: Aspiration - Integrity - Respect

At the heart of everything we do at Newhouse Academy is a belief in our core values of aspiration, integrity and respect. We ensure that our students model our core values so that they are able to develop the resilience and self-regulation necessary to make the right choices.

Commonly Asked Questions

How will you help my child settle in?

The transition from primary to secondary school can be a challenging experience for students and parents. We have in place a specialist Year 7 team and a carefully planned programme that makes this transition as smooth as possible. Students are placed in appropriate form groups suitable to their needs, usually with at least one friend.

During the first few weeks at Newhouse Academy, Year 7 students are supported by staff, Prefects and Peer Mentors as they settle into their new environment. If your child is anxious about starting secondary school or you are concerned about their mental health and wellbeing, we have a team of trained counsellors and mentors in our SEMH room (The Bridge), who will meet with and support your child. We aim to involve parents fully so we can provide the best possible transition experience.

Where can my child go if they need support?

In order for students to maximise their achievement by performing to their best ability, we have strong and responsive systems to assist, guide and safeguard all our children. Non-teaching Heads of Year lead teams of dedicated Form Tutors who support, encourage and guide students through the many choices and challenges they face during secondary school.

Your child can access help and support through their Form Tutor, Head of Year or they can speak to a member of staff in ‘The Bridge’ if they have any concerns.

Will my child be able to access a full and broad curriculum at Newhouse Academy?

Our curriculum at Newhouse Academy improves and evolves every year to meet the high expectations not only of our students and their families but also our colleges, apprenticeship providers and employers. A curriculum is more than just the subjects we teach. Alongside a raft of excellent qualifications, we ensure that our students develop the necessary life skills to succeed on ambitious pathways when they leave us.

As part of Hollingworth Learning Trust we use our connections with the Teaching School to draw upon the expertise of staff across every department. This is so we can be confident that the subjects we offer are in line with high expectations not just locally across Rochdale, but nationally across secondary education.

Will my child be taught well at Newhouse Academy?

At Newhouse Academy, and across the Hollingworth Learning Trust, we believe that teaching and learning should be exciting, inspirational and highly effective. Above all, it should provoke thought, develop the imagination and open new doors to a wonderful, bright future. Teaching and learning is our passion and staff work tirelessly to unleash those aspirations.

We are proud of the fact that we have specialist teachers in all areas of the school and attract the brightest and the best teaching and support staff to work with us. We use a range of learning strategies throughout the school, ensuring that lessons are challenging, engaging and enjoyable. We have high expectations of all our students and support and encourage them to achieve their full potential. Being part of the Hollingworth Learning Trust means that we are always looking to improve how our students learn.

Why should we choose Newhouse Academy as our secondary school choice?

Newhouse Academy is now part of the Hollingworth Learning Trust and recently appointed a new Headteacher with extensive experience of school improvement, having supported, advised and led schools across the country. Mr Burnham plans to utilise the partnership with Hollingworth Academy, to ensure Newhouse makes the necessary steps to becoming the school of choice in the community.

Hollingworth is an outstanding academy with a fantastic track record in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 education. We are already working closely with them to ensure the students at Newhouse Academy, have access to the same opportunities.

We will do all we can to provide improved life chances for our students and the opportunity to develop personally and academically.

Please take your time to navigate our 3D virtual tour and watch the videos
