LGBT+ Information
Newhouse Academy are committed to ensuring that every child feels safe, supported and heard to ensure that they can reach their highest learning potential.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health, (SEMH) concerns such as depression, self-harm, low self-esteem, alcohol and drug abuse and suicidal thoughts can affect anyone, but they are more common among people who are LGBT+.
Being LGBT+ doesn’t cause these problems. But some things LGBT+ people go through can affect their social, emotional and mental health, such as discrimination, homophobia or transphobia, social isolation, rejection, and difficult experiences of coming out.
As a school we want to embrace a whole organisation approach to LGBT+ inclusion through a process of action and reflection to ensure that we are supporting our young people, aiming to avoid any future mental health concerns related to LBGT+, by being a LGBT+ inclusive school.
Please find below some useful links that may support your child further and do not hesitate to contact a member of the SEMH team should you require further information.
