An Inspiring Day at Manchester Airport

A group of Year 8 students spent an exciting day at Manchester Airport, including time at the Runway Visitor Park, where they explored the science and technology behind aviation. They discovered the wide range of jobs and training opportunities available at the airport and got a behind-the-scenes look at how flights are managed – from the runway to the terminals.

Highlights for the students included:

• “Watching the planes take off”
• “I loved sitting in a plane and learning how to use the controls in the flight deck.”

They were introduced to a variety of careers, including:

Pilot, cabin crew, police, firefighter, runway operator, air traffic controller, meet and greet staff, tour guides, engineers, retail staff and managers, customs officers, first aid workers, and paramedics.

Students gave the day top marks:

• “We learnt loads of things that we wouldn’t have learnt otherwise.”
• “You learn more about it than you do watching TikTok!”
