World Issues Overview
| September x 3 sessions |

| This month includes international peace day on the 21st September. In the three world issues sessions, we will investigate the causes, impacts and responses of the Russia/Ukraine Conflict. |
| October x 3 sessions |

| This month is Black History month. Black History Month is a momentous occasion to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of black people to British society. BHM this year is ‘saluting our sisters’ focussing on Black Women and their contributions to society over the years. |
| November x 5 sessions |

The month starts with National Authors day on the 1st November. We will be looking at the influential author Dan Brown. The 11th November is renowned as being Remembrance Day where we commemorate the many lives lost during war and conflict. We will also recognise National Education Day, being aware of why education is so important and how in different locations around the world, some children are not as fortunate as us. |

| December starts with the 1st December being World Aids day. We will be investigating the misconceptions surrounding HIV and Aids and how we can support charities and Non-Governmental Organisations to decrease the spread of this disease. |
| January x 4 sessions |

|
The start of the new year will involve looking at how different parts of the world celebrate the new year. For the rest of January we will commemorate the Holocaust, supporting Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January. |
| February x 3 sessions |

| February includes the 20th February which is the World Day of Social Justice. We will investigate what we mean by social justice and using recent case studies from Amnesty International, support people subjected to injustice. |
| March x 4 sessions |

|
March sees a number of important international days being recognised. We will start with investigating animal rights for World Wildlife Day on 3rd March. Followed by researching into equal rights for International Women’s Day on 8th March. Finally, World Water Day on 22nd March will see us support the charity Wateraid, with their campaign to ensure that all people have the basic human right of fresh clean water. |
| April x 2 sessions |

With only two sessions in April, we will look at the Tutsi Genocide in Rwanda for International Day of Reflection on 7th April. We will also debate the use of nuclear power and weapons for Chernobyl Disaster review day on 26th April. |
| May x 4 sessions |

| Two world issues in May will focus on World freedom of Press Day on 3rd May. We will investigate the debate on freedom of press with examples of controversy from the royal family and other celebrities. The second issue will be in support of World Climate Change Day where we will investigate the ever-concerning issue of Climate Change and what we can do to reduce our carbon footprints. |
| June x 4 sessions |

| Three very different world issues will be explored in June. First World Oceans Day on 8th June will engage us in the Plastic Ocean Pollution Problem. The 14th June is World Blood Donor Day and why blood donation is vital for all people. Finally, World Refugee Day on 20th June we will identifying refugee routes around the world and whether there is a refugee crisis. |
| July x 3 sessions |

July sees world population day on 11th July. We will investigate the positive and negatives of the world’s rising population. For the final session prior to the summer holidays will explore the necessary safety precautions for water safety in our local areas. |
