Raising aspirations at Newhouse Academy with Future Foundations event.

4th February 2023

Newhouse Academy hosted its annual Future Foundations careers event last Thursday 19 January, where students from years 7 to 10 were given the opportunity to research and discuss courses, training opportunities and careers with post-16 providers.

Organiser, Mr Baird said: “I am delighted with the response and felt many students came away learning something new about their potential career path for life after Newhouse Academy.”

The annual event is held to raise the aspirations of students at the academy, and engage them in thinking about their life and education choices. Almost 20 post-16 providers from around the North West attended the event, including Pets at Home, who were there for the first time and brought along the lovely and impeccably behaved Walter and Winnie, two Italian greyhounds.

Alongside a programme of careers education, including careers related topics taught through PSHE, assemblies, taster days, online career exploration and planning tools, mock interviews and work experience the Future Foundations event gave students the chance to speak with different people and influences from the world of education and work. The academy are always looking to network with employers and the wider community to support with CEIAG (Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) provision.

If your business offers post-16 opportunities such as apprenticeships, or could offer a work experience placement, or would be happy to host a work place visit, please get in touch with Louise Jamieson, careers administrator (JamiesonL@newhouseacademy.co.uk).

The college and career readiness software used at Newhouse Academy, helps students discover relevant career options based on their personality, skills and knowledge, and opens their eyes to future possibilities. This means students can be selected in small groups to visit a workplace where they are truly interested and matched to the workplace they are visiting.

Mr Baird said: “I would like to thank all the providers that came to the Future Foundations event, we really appreciate your valued input and this opportunity for our students to engage with their future choices.”
